Pit Collapses on 17 People at Domi Keniago, With 7 Bodies Recovered and 1 Person Still Missing

At least seven illegal miners have been confirmed dead after a galamsey pit collapsed on 17 people at Domi Keniago in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
Of the 17 people affected by the collapse, eight were trapped inside the pit. Seven of the trapped miners have since been retrieved and confirmed dead, while one person remains missing.
Speaking in an interview on the Ghana Se Sen show on Lawson TV/Radio on Friday, September 4, 2026, Bismark Asamoah, Spokesperson for the Amansie South District Chief Executive (DCE), confirmed the incident.
Mr Asamoah said authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

He added that efforts are underway to locate and retrieve the remaining missing person as rescue operations continue.
Authorities are also working to establish the full circumstances that led to the collapse of the galamsey pit.
