- The package includes 1,400 relief boxes containing essential supplies and 1,400 mattresses.
MTN Ghana has fulfilled its GH¢2.5 million pledge to support victims of the devastating floods that hit parts of Ghana on June 29, 2026.
The telecommunications company has donated 1,400 relief boxes and 1,400 mattresses to families whose homes and livelihoods were affected by the disaster.
The relief boxes contain essential food items, detergents and blankets, providing immediate assistance to households that lost personal belongings and basic necessities to the floods.
The items were presented to the Office of the President and received on behalf of the government by the Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, and the Presidential Adviser and Special Aide to President John Dramani Mahama.
MTN Ghana announced the relief package shortly after the floods caused widespread destruction, particularly in Accra, where homes and businesses were submerged and thousands of residents were left struggling to recover.
The impact, however, extended beyond the capital. Several communities, including parts of the Central Region, also suffered significant flooding in the days leading up to and around the June 29 disaster.
For affected families, the losses went beyond damaged homes and buildings. Furniture, bedding, clothing, food and other household essentials were either destroyed or swept away, forcing many to rely on support from government, businesses, civil society organisations and individuals.
From pledge to delivery
When MTN Ghana announced its relief package, Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett said the company stood in solidarity with families affected by the disaster.
He noted that the floods had taken away more than homes, depriving many people of personal belongings and disrupting their daily lives. The intervention, he said, was intended to reassure affected families that they were not alone as they worked to rebuild.
The company has now completed the delivery of the pledged items.
The 1,400 mattresses are expected to provide basic sleeping arrangements for affected households, while the relief boxes will help meet some of the immediate food and household needs of families recovering from the disaster.
Leading the MTN Ghana delegation at the presentation was Nana Kofi Asare, General Manager for Legal and Regulatory Affairs.
He was accompanied by Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Acting General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value; Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager of the MTN Foundation; Afua Falconer, Acting Senior Manager for Communications; Rhoderlyn Entsua-Mensah, Manager for Sustainability; and Angela Adu Ampofo, Manager for Regulatory Affairs.
Also present was Nanabanyin Brown-Addo, Head of Joy Business and Coordinator of the Multimedia Group’s flood relief support campaign.
Government commends MTN Ghana
Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for what she described as a timely intervention.
“On behalf of the President and the people of Ghana, I extend our deepest gratitude to MTN Ghana for this generous contribution,” she said.
She stressed the importance of corporate support during national emergencies, describing MTN Ghana as a partner in national development and the welfare of citizens.
Nana Oye also assured the public that the relief items would be distributed to the intended beneficiaries, with the government committed to ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.
She further indicated that MTN Ghana would be welcomed to participate in the distribution exercise, highlighting the collaborative approach to supporting flood victims.
Supporting communities in times of crisis
The donation forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader corporate social responsibility initiatives implemented through the MTN Foundation.
By delivering the 1,400 relief boxes and 1,400 mattresses, the company has converted its post-disaster pledge into tangible assistance for families affected by the floods.
While the relief items cannot replace everything lost or erase the trauma suffered by victims, they are expected to ease some of the immediate challenges facing affected households as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.
For families still recovering from the June 29 floods, the intervention provides practical support and a reminder that they have not been left to face the aftermath alone.
