The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park workers at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) over allegations that they extorted money from travellers.

The decision forms part of the company’s ongoing measures to clamp down on unprofessional conduct and ensure a smooth and secure experience for passengers using the country’s main international airport.

Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed the development on Tuesday when Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation visited the airport.

According to her, the action was taken after several complaints from passengers led to the identification of the individuals allegedly involved.

“Just about two weeks ago, we had two people expelled from the airport’s car park operations for asking passengers for money. Because we were able to identify and focus on the specific individuals, we ensured they left the airport immediately,” she said.

Mrs Opare urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of extortion and other forms of misconduct involving airport personnel to enable authorities to take swift action.

She stressed that GACL remains committed to maintaining high standards of accountability, professionalism and service delivery at Ghana’s busiest airport.

The company says the dismissal of the two workers is part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight and protect travellers from any form of exploitation or harassment.
