Gender Minister Leads Monitoring Tour to Strengthen Ghana School Feeding Programme

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has led members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board on a monitoring visit across basic schools in the Greater Accra Region to evaluate the execution of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
The delegation visited Chorkor Presbyterian Basic School and Chemunaa Basic School to inspect meal preparation standards, assess nutritional quality, and gather direct feedback from pupils, teachers, and caterers regarding the initiative’s impact on classroom attendance.
Joined by the National Coordinator of the GSFP, Hajia Fati Forgor, and the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the board expressed satisfaction with the meals provided and commended school staff and catering personnel for maintaining quality standards.
Addressing pupils during the visit, Dr. Lartey emphasized the role of social protection interventions in keeping children in school and enhancing academic performance.
“The Ghana School Feeding Programme is a critical social protection intervention aimed at improving school enrolment, attendance, retention, and learning outcomes, while promoting the health and well-being of children,” Dr. Lartey stated.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s pledge to expand and refine the programme while warning that strict accountability measures will be enforced across all beneficiary schools.
“The Ministry will intensify monitoring and accountability measures to maintain standards,” she cautioned, adding that caterers who fail to comply with operational guidelines will face sanctions under established regulatory procedures.
According to Dr. Lartey, insights gathered during the tour will guide ongoing policy adjustments to ensure the efficiency, safety, and long-term sustainability of the feeding program nationwide.
