Major League Soccer (MLS) has launched a formal investigation into Inter Miami following allegations of tampering tied to the signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
Inter Miami announced on Wednesday that the 34-year-old former Manchester United player had joined the club on a contract running through the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend until June 2029.
However, moments after the official announcement, MLS released a statement confirming an active review into the franchise’s conduct.
“The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete. While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the discovery priority [first rights] to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation,” the league stated.
Casemiro, who departed Manchester United at the end of last season, joins Inter Miami amid heightened scrutiny over roster compliance and player acquisition rules across the league.
