GNFS Relocates Bee Swarm After Student and Teacher Attacked at Vakpo Secondary Technical School

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has safely removed and relocated a swarm of bees from Vakpo Secondary Technical School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region after a student and a teacher were attacked and stung.
Both victims received medical treatment following the incident and are reported to have been attended to promptly.
According to the GNFS, firefighters from the Anfoega Fire Station responded to a distress call from the school after the bee attack was reported.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bee colony had been nesting in the ceiling of the girls’ dormitory for several years. However, the insects became aggressive after weeding activities were carried out around the area, triggering the attack.
The fire officers successfully evacuated and relocated the bee swarm, restoring safety to the affected section of the school and preventing further attacks.
The operation also ensured that teaching, learning and other activities on campus could continue without posing additional risks to students and staff.
The GNFS has urged school authorities and the public to report bee infestations promptly for professional intervention.
The Service further advised institutions to cordon off areas where bee swarms are detected and avoid disturbing them, stressing that early reporting and proper handling are essential in preventing similar incidents.
