Asantehene to Introduce Nana Ama Bonsu as 15th Asantehemaa today
Ceremony at Manhyia Palace marks another step towards her enstoolment as 15th Asantehemaa

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will today, Thursday, July 9, 2026, introduce Nana Ama Bonsu to the Kumasi Traditional Council as the new Asantehemaa, as part of the processes leading to her enstoolment as the 15th Asantehemaa.
Nana Ama Bonsu will assume the stool name Nana Yaa Akyea II following her formal introduction.
The ceremony, which will take place at the Manhyia Palace, will be attended by Kumasi divisional chiefs and presided over by the Asantehene in line with Asante customs and traditions.
After today’s presentation, Nana Ama Bonsu is expected to be introduced to the Asanteman Council next week, where she will formally take up the revered office of Asantehemaa.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II named Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa on Monday, July 6, 2026, following the passing of the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III in August 2025. Her appointment took immediate effect, and she was outdoored at the Manhyia Palace on the same day.
Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who served as Asantehemaa for eight years and died at the age of 98.
The new Asantehemaa is a granddaughter of Otumfuo Agyeman Prempeh I, the 13th Asantehene, and a niece of Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, the 14th Asantehene.
She is also the sister of the late Nana Akwasi Agyemang, the former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive popularly known as “Okumkom.”
Her appointment is seen as the beginning of a new era in Asanteman’s traditional leadership, with the Asantehemaa’s stool playing a significant role in customary governance, succession, and the preservation of Asante culture.
