The death toll from Monday’s police shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region has risen to three.

The Twafohene of Sefwi Sayerano confirmed the latest fatality during an interview, revealing that the third victim died on Wednesday morning.

“The third death has been confirmed this morning. It has once again thrown the community into a state of mourning,” the chief said.

According to him, the deceased is of Zambrama descent, although the family had yet to provide further details about his identity.

“He is of Zambrama descent. I am yet to engage the family for details on his identity and other information,” the Twafohene stated.

The shooting occurred on Monday during a confrontation between residents and a police patrol team carrying out an operation to arrest a suspected drug peddler in the community.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and grief, with the Ghana Police Service already interdicting eight officers involved in the operation pending investigations by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to establish the facts behind the deadly incident.
