Salah Inspires Egypt to Historic First World Cup Victory

Mohamed Salah delivered a decisive second-half performance as Egypt secured their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory with a 3-1 comeback win over New Zealand.

The triumph, achieved in Egypt’s ninth World Cup match, puts the Pharaohs on the verge of reaching the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Egypt found themselves trailing after New Zealand stunned them with an early opening goal. However, the North Africans responded strongly, turning the game around with three unanswered goals.

Salah proved to be the difference-maker, scoring in the 67th minute to put Egypt ahead after a relatively quiet start to the tournament. He then played a key role in sealing the victory when his corner kick was headed home by Trezeguet to extend Egypt’s advantage.

The goal marked a significant milestone for Salah, who had endured disappointment on the World Cup stage. After a difficult campaign in 2018 and Egypt’s failure to qualify for the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the Egyptian captain finally produced a defining performance at football’s biggest event.

His impact follows standout displays by some of the tournament’s biggest stars, including Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

The result leaves Egypt in a strong position to qualify for the last 32, with a point against Iran likely enough to secure progression.

Speaking after the match, Salah praised his teammates and highlighted the importance of the victory.

“It’s a great achievement for all the players. It’s a great win and a great atmosphere. The next game is very important,” he said.

With history already made, Egypt will now focus on completing the job and securing a place in the knockout rounds.
