Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has called on the government to immediately operationalise the newly constructed pediatric hospital located in the Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Convener of the group, Samuel Doku, argued that it was unreasonable for a fully furnished hospital to remain unused after significant public funds had been invested in the project.

According to him, concerns over alleged inflation of contract prices should not delay the use of a facility intended to provide healthcare services to residents in Weija-Gbawe and nearby communities.

Mr Doku urged the government to commission a forensic audit to determine whether the allegations of inflated costs are valid or merely speculative. However, he maintained that the hospital should be opened to the public while investigations continue.

Beyond the health sector, the CDM convener also appealed to the government to support farmers who are struggling to find markets for their produce despite harvesting large quantities of food crops.

He called for increased support for the National Buffer Stock Company to enable it to purchase more produce from farmers and help reduce post-harvest losses.

Mr Doku further suggested that the government invest in better road infrastructure in farming communities to make it easier for buyers and traders to access food-producing areas and transport goods efficiently.

The group made the appeals during a press briefing held in Accra.
