Three Dead, Several Injured in Horrific Crash on Kpeve–Asikuma Road

Three people have tragically died while 17 others have been rescued following a fatal road accident at Woadze near Kpeve on the Kpeve–Asikuma stretch in the Volta Region.
The crash occurred on Friday, May 22, 2026, involving a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle with registration number GR 8231 C, which was en route from Abotuase in the Volta Region to Ningo in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), personnel from the Peki Fire Station responded promptly after receiving a distress call at about 9:58 a.m.

In a statement from the Volta Regional Public Relations Office of the GNFS, the vehicle was carrying 20 passengers, comprising 11 males, five females, and four children.
The impact of the crash left the vehicle severely damaged, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage.
Firefighters managed to rescue 17 victims from the mangled vehicle.
“The rescue team successfully extricated 13 adults and four children from the wreckage,” the statement confirmed.
Sadly, three adults — two men and one woman — were confirmed dead at the scene.
Officers from the Ghana Police Service, particularly the Kpando Divisional Command, together with personnel from the Ghana Ambulance Service stationed at Afadjato and Juapong, assisted in rescue and evacuation efforts.

The injured victims, along with the bodies of the deceased, were transported to the Kpando Government Hospital and Peki Government Hospital for treatment, preservation, and further investigations.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has reiterated its call on motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations and avoid excessive speeding to help reduce road crashes across the country.
