A Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded six individuals into police custody over their alleged involvement in a child trafficking and child stealing network operating in Kasoa and parts of Accra.

The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, ordered the suspects to remain in custody while investigations continue. However, a 74-year-old retired midwife linked to the case was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

Among those accused is Lucinda Naomi Otchere, alongside five others identified as part of the alleged syndicate. The suspects are expected to return to court on May 27, 2026.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Sylvester Agbezudor, the case began after a suspect allegedly abducted a seven-year-old girl in Kasoa and handed her over to a midwife believed to be acting as an intermediary. The child was then allegedly sold to a buyer in Accra.

Investigators further claim that the suspect later confessed after initially denying involvement, leading to the arrest of additional individuals linked to the network.

Police say further investigations uncovered additional cases, including the alleged sale of an eight-month-old baby for GH¢60,000 and the trafficking of a five-year-old girl from the same mother.

The eight-month-old child has since been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to locate the missing five-year-old.

Family members of the victims say they are living in fear and distress as they await updates on the missing child.

Investigations into the alleged trafficking syndicate are ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the network.
