Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is expected to leave Villarreal CF at the end of the season after the club reportedly decided not to activate an extension clause in his contract.

Partey joined the Spanish side last summer following the expiration of his deal with Arsenal F.C., signing a one-year contract with an option for a further season.

However, the 31-year-old has endured a challenging campaign, struggling to secure a regular starting role due in part to minor injury setbacks. Despite making 30 appearances across all competitions, he has not been able to establish himself as a key player in the squad.

With the season drawing to a close, Villarreal are understood to have opted against extending his stay, effectively paving the way for his departure as a free agent in the upcoming transfer window.

Partey, a former Atlético Madrid midfielder, is now expected to assess his next move ahead of the new season.

Despite uncertainty at club level, he is still expected to feature for Ghana as the country prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
