The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured Ghanaians that government has successfully addressed feeding challenges in Senior High Schools under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
He explained that a comprehensive review of the policy revealed past difficulties in food supply, which at times disrupted academic activities and forced students to return home before completing the school term.

According to him, the government has now made adequate financial provisions to ensure a steady and uninterrupted supply of food for students nationwide.
The Minister gave the assurance during the commissioning of the National Teaching Council’s regional office complex in Tamale, where he reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening and sustaining the flagship education policy.

He noted that measures have been put in place to prevent the recurrence of food shortages in schools, stressing that the situation is now firmly under control.
“Having examined the feeding of Free Senior High School students, we realised that there were many times that schools had to be closed down… That is now a thing of the past,” he stated.

Mr. Iddrisu further revealed that funding for the programme has been reinforced through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), which will ensure consistent and reliable financial support for Free SHS implementation.
“There are adequate resources and adequate funding from GETFund to finance Free Senior High School,” he added.
