Ghana is advancing discussions with Microsoft to secure a major digital transformation partnership aimed at creating jobs, expanding digital infrastructure, and boosting the country’s position as a technology hub in Africa.

The initiative follows a high-level meeting in Redmond, Washington, between Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, and senior Microsoft executives.

The talks form part of Ghana’s broader strategy to attract global tech investment and strengthen its digital economy through artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and skills development.

Officials say the discussions focused on key areas including AI innovation, capacity building, and expanding cloud services through Microsoft’s Azure platform. A joint working group is expected to be established to turn the proposals into concrete programmes.

These initiatives are likely to include digital skills training for young people, support for local enterprise innovation, and improved digital infrastructure for public services.

Ambassador Smith said the partnership could help create employment opportunities, enhance service delivery, and improve Ghana’s competitiveness in the global digital space.

Microsoft also expressed interest in deepening collaboration, signalling readiness to support Ghana’s development goals through technology-driven solutions.

While the talks mark a significant step forward, questions remain about implementation timelines and the scale of investment required to turn the proposals into measurable economic impact.
