Police have launched a manhunt for a 27-year-old man, Kwadwo Richmond, after he allegedly killed his friend over a GH¢20 disagreement at Asuboa in the Asante Akim South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The victim, identified only as Eric, reportedly died following a violent confrontation on Sunday, May 3, after a dispute linked to a promised GH¢20 payment.

According to reports, the misunderstanding began after Eric travelled from Dampong to Asuboa to collect an outstanding payment related to a refrigerator he had sold to Richmond’s mother. He is said to have earlier promised Richmond GH¢20 as a token once the money was settled.

Tensions escalated when Richmond demanded the GH¢20 immediately upon Eric’s arrival. Eric reportedly explained he had no cash on him and suggested the amount could be deducted from the money owed by Richmond’s mother, but this was rejected.

Speaking to Adom News, the Secretary of the Asuboa Youth Committee, Kwabena Ofori Atta, said the disagreement first turned verbal before being briefly calmed by bystanders.

However, Richmond allegedly left the scene and later returned armed with a machete.

During the renewed confrontation, Eric is said to have picked up a piece of wood in self-defence. Richmond allegedly attacked him with a cutlass, inflicting serious injuries after breaking through his defence.

Eric reportedly sustained a deep cut and collapsed while attempting to flee. He was rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss.

Mr Ofori Atta said the suspect fled immediately after the incident and has since gone into hiding. Police have since visited Richmond’s residence and begun investigations, including questioning his mother.

The deceased is survived by a wife and four children, who are now left in distress following the tragic incident.
