Bose Ogulu, mother of Nigerian music star Burna Boy, has spoken out in defence of her son following heavy criticism on social media over claims of arrogance.

The backlash follows a recent incident involving Burna Boy and DJ Tunez at a nightclub in Lagos, which later escalated into an online exchange between Burna Boy and Wizkid. The situation sparked renewed criticism, with some users accusing the Grammy-winning artiste of frequent altercations and an arrogant attitude.

However, in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Bose Ogulu dismissed the allegations, insisting she is unbothered by how people choose to describe her son.

When asked whether she is concerned about Burna Boy being labelled arrogant, she responded that she has no issue with it, especially if it is linked to self-awareness and confidence.

“If knowing your worth and carrying yourself as such is arrogance, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologise for that,” she said.

She further explained that society often expects people—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—to downplay their confidence.

“I was born into a world where we were expected to put our heads down because of the colour of our skin, passport, and gender. I don’t subscribe to that,” she added.

Ogulu concluded that she and her son understand their worth and are willing to be challenged if others disagree.

“If you don’t realise that I know my worth, then put me to the test,” she stated.
