Carlos Queiroz has expressed strong belief that Ghana has the potential to evolve from a nation of talented footballers into a “country of champions” following his appointment as head coach of the Ghana national football team.

Queiroz was officially unveiled on April 23, 2026, on a short-term four-month contract that will take him through the upcoming FIFA World Cup. He is tasked with steadying the team after a difficult run of four consecutive defeats under former coach Otto Addo.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L at the tournament, where they will face England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team.

Speaking at his unveiling, Queiroz said his immediate focus is on delivering results at the World Cup.

“In this moment, I have to put 99.9% of my attention on the success of the World Cup,” he said. “I hope for the best results for Ghana, and if that happens, I will be very happy to contribute.”

He praised Ghana’s football culture and talent pool, stressing that the country has immense potential if properly managed.

“This is a country of footballers,” he said. “The day Ghana manages both the present and the future properly, it will not just be a country of footballers, but a country of champions.”

The Black Stars are aiming to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since their memorable 2010 campaign.
