A 22-year-old man, Ebenezer Anning, has died in a tragic road accident on the Assin Foso–Kumasi stretch of the N8 Highway at Assin Asempaneye in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The incident occurred in the evening while the deceased, a native of Assin Dansame, was returning home after watching a UEFA Champions League match with a friend.

Reports indicate that a Toyota Voxy commercial vehicle with registration number GW 2890-26 struck him when he attempted to cross the highway on the outskirts of Assin Asempaneye. He died instantly.

His body has since been taken to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital and later deposited at the New Edubiase Government Hospital mortuary.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Enock Nyarko, reported himself to the police. He told investigators he was travelling from Obuasi to Mankessim when the deceased suddenly crossed the road at a blind spot, making it difficult to avoid the collision.

The Toyota Voxy model has recently faced restrictions in commercial passenger operations due to safety concerns, including improper conversion from right-hand to left-hand drive and its association with increased accident risks.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
