Police gun down suspects after chase following daylight robbery that left vendor injured

Two suspected armed robbers have been killed in a police shootout after attacking a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Tema Community 5.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Aba Fosuah Plaza. The suspects reportedly targeted the vendor under the guise of carrying out a routine cash-out transaction.
Preliminary findings indicate that one of the attackers, who was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor and requested a transaction. However, in the process, he pulled out a pistol and demanded the victim’s bag containing cash.
The vendor resisted, sparking a struggle between her and the suspects. During the confrontation, she was shot in the leg before the robbers fled the scene on their motorbike with the stolen money.
A nearby police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit responded swiftly to a distress call and pursued the suspects. During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel.
Police returned fire, hitting both suspects, who fell off their motorbike. They were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a loaded pistol, mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and cash totaling GH¢11,390. The victim’s Ghana Card was also recovered.
The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The police have assured residents of their continued commitment to security and urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
