At least nine people have been confirmed dead, while two others remain missing after a tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake in the East Gonja District.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, between Sikakope and Mataiko, along the Yeji–Congo route.
Reports indicate the boat, which was carrying 14 passengers, overturned due to severe weather conditions.
Among those onboard, seven people—including two women and five children—lost their lives, while five men were successfully rescued.
So far, rescue teams have retrieved seven bodies, with a woman and a child still unaccounted for.
Authorities say none of the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
Search and rescue efforts are still underway as emergency teams continue to look for the missing victims.
