Mahama Pledges Completion of Krofrom Market by December 2026
Mahama promises to revive Krofrom Market under NDC’s national market rehabilitation agenda by December 2026.

- Krofrom Market to be completed by end of 2026 under NDC’s Market Enhancement Programme
- Project has been abandoned since 2007, turning into a danger zone
- Market Queen backs Mahama; traders pledge support
President John Dramani Mahama has promised to complete the long-abandoned Krofrom Market in Kumasi by December 2026, ending nearly 19 years of neglect that turned the once-promising commercial hub into a zone plagued by crime and overgrowth.
Speaking during his “Thank You Tour” of the Ashanti Region, Mahama announced that the project would be revived under the NDC’s Market Enhancement Programme, which aims to complete 18 stalled market projects across the country.
Launched in 2007, the Krofrom Market has since deteriorated, becoming a haven for criminal activity and even wildlife, posing serious risks to local traders and residents.
Mahama directed the Kumasi Mayor to work with Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to accelerate efforts for the market’s reconstruction.
Market Queen Nana Sakina praised Mahama’s track record, describing him as “the only leader capable of completing abandoned projects,” and assured full trader support for the NDC.
While the pledge marks a significant commitment under Mahama’s infrastructure reform plans, details on funding and contractor selection have yet to be disclosed.
