Asante Patrick, a 65-year-old blind cocoa farmer from Ahafo Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region, is pleading with President John Dramani Mahama to release the GH₵2,500 payment that the government says is due to him.

According to Mr Patrick, also known as Kwabena Anane, he sent bags of cocoa beans for purchase in December but has yet to receive any payment.

“I have to beg before I can eat,” he lamented, describing his desperate situation.

His plight reflects a broader crisis affecting many Ghanaian cocoa farmers, some of whom have been forced to limit meals to once a day due to unpaid cocoa deliveries.

The situation has sparked calls for urgent government action to ensure that farmers receive their due payments and can sustain their livelihoods.
