A 57-year-old man has died after his bag became trapped in the doors of a subway train and he was dragged along the platform at a Brooklyn station on Monday evening.
Authorities identified the victim as Yaw Boahene. Police said Boahene was attempting to leave an A train at the Utica Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant shortly before 6 p.m. when his bag became caught in the closing doors.
Investigators said the train began moving while Boahene remained trapped. He was dragged past approximately seven train cars before striking a wall near the end of the station, where the tracks lead towards a tunnel.
He subsequently fell onto the tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses described the incident as distressing, with passengers on the platform reportedly panicking after seeing what had happened.
