Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi—is expected to regain his freedom today, Monday, June 2, 2025, after spending five days in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Wontumi has been under investigation for alleged involvement in financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

Although he was granted bail set at GHC50 million with two justified sureties on May 28, administrative setbacks delayed his release, even after fulfilling the bail terms by May 30.

His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, assured that all outstanding legal issues are being addressed and expects the bail to take full effect today.

“We’ve faced some challenges, but by Monday we expect everything to be cleared so we can move forward and achieve the desired outcome,” Appiah-Kubi stated.
