A defining moment in Ghana’s political narrative unfolds tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, as Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (KAA) officially announces his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership for the 2028 general election.

The declaration is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Fiore Heights, situated on Ring Road Central, Accra—under the campaign theme “Going Back to Our Roots: Service, Sacrifice, and Selflessness.”

A Symbol of Renewal in Accra’s Political Belt

Fiore Heights at Ring Road Central—a massive, newly branded edifice—will serve as the campaign headquarters. The towering structure in the heart of Accra’s political corridor has been transformed into a dynamic centre for grassroots mobilization. For Agyepong, it is more than bricks and branding; it’s the physical embodiment of a movement seeking to restore integrity and soul to a party at a crossroads.

A Journey Anchored in Tragedy and Purpose

Born into a family legacy steeped in public service, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong endured profound personal tragedy when his father, High Court Judge Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, was abducted and killed in the 1982 June 30 purge. Yet from grief, KAA carved purpose. Returning to his civil engineering studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he emerged with renewed resolve—to honour his father’s memory through service, not sorrow.

From Sports Campaigner to Party Reformer

Before politics, sport was KAA’s arena for leadership. As Chairman of the Kotoko Supporters Union at KNUST, he organized student volunteers to man stadium gates during Asante Kotoko matches—raising revenue and instilling cohesion. Operating behind a microphone, he broadcasted matches with the same passion that ignited his purpose. His experiences on the sports fields became lessons in grassroots leadership, fundraising, and unifying diverse voices—a blueprint he now brings to his political strategy.

A Stand for Internal Reform and Party Integrity

Long before announcing his bid, KAA has been a vocal advocate for internal reform within the NPP. He proposed prioritizing the presidential primary process before conducting lesser internal elections—a plan aimed at restoring confidence and fairness within the party structure. In his video message released today, he emphasized:

“Ghana deserves leadership with integrity—leadership that fixes the system. We can build a competent state, one that delivers to the satisfaction of the people, where merit—not money—rules.

A Call for Collective Redemption

As he pledges his candidacy for the 2028 NPP flagbearership, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong appealed directly to the NPP fraternity and to Ghanaians at large:

“This is not about personal ambition—it is about reclaiming the values on which the party was built. I invite you all to join me tomorrow as we begin this journey of redemption.”

His message is clear: Ghana’s next leader must be rooted in service, built on sacrifice, committed to selflessness—and guided by integrity.

What Comes Next

Tomorrow, the campaign officially begins. The shadow of Fiore Heights will lift to reveal the face of a campaign grounded in ideals—an appeal to the conscience of a party longing to reclaim its identity. For KAA, the stakes are higher than ever: restoring the NPP’s relevance, re-energizing its grassroot base, and delivering a leadership that prioritizes merit over money.

In a pre-recorded address released today, he stressed the need for restoring the party’s core principles:

“Ghana deserves leadership with integrity—leadership that fixes the system. We can build a competent state… where merit—not money—rules.

He appealed directly to party faithful and all Ghanaians: to join him in what he termed “a journey of redemption,” as he strives for a reformed NPP grounded in service, sacrifice, and selflessness.

As the countdown begins toward the 2028 election, all eyes will be on Accra’s Ring Road, where one man’s vision for renewal could reshape Ghana’s political future.
