The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals linked to the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School during the Central Region District Inter-Schools Athletics competition.

The attack involved students from the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).

Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, Central Regional Director of Education, said on Monday, February 23, that authorities are investigating the identities of those involved, noting that some assailants may not be students but local youths.

The incident took place on Thursday, February 19, in Agona Swedru, when tensions between the two schools escalated into physical violence, causing disruption to the sporting event and raising concerns over student safety.

In response, the GES has suspended all zonal inter-school sporting activities for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) in the region until the investigation is complete.

The service emphasized that measures will be taken to ensure accountability and restore safety and order in school events.
