Authorities Arrest Herdsmen Following Crop Destruction and Water Contamination in Local Communities

- Three Fulani herdsmen arrested for allegedly destroying farmlands in Asante Akyem North Municipality.
- Cattle movements reportedly contaminated rivers and streams relied on by residents.
- Police vow continued collaboration with local authorities to protect farmers and maintain peace.
Three herdsmen of Fulani descent have been arrested in the Asante Akyem North Municipality for allegedly bringing cattle into local communities, causing damage to several farmlands.
The arrests were confirmed by the District Police Commander, DSP Edem Aklasu, who told Newsmen that municipal authorities had previously warned herdsmen against moving cattle into these areas due to recurring crop destruction.
DSP Aklasu explained that farmers have frequently reported incidents of cattle straying onto their farms, destroying crops and, in some cases, intimidating farmers who try to intervene.
He further noted that the cattle’s movement has led to contamination of rivers and streams used by residents for drinking and household purposes.
The police commander assured the public that law enforcement and other security agencies would continue collaborating with local authorities to protect farmers, maintain peace, and prevent further incidents in the municipality.
