Interior Minister and Asawase MP, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has pledged a thorough investigation and swift justice following the murder of Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri.
The respected traditional leader was fatally shot at his residence near the Asawase F-line community centre on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that two armed men on a motorbike arrived at around 8:40 p.m., with one firing multiple shots using an AK-47 rifle before fleeing.
In a strongly worded statement issued the next day, Minister Muntaka condemned the act as “heinous” and a blow to national peace and security. He assured the public that security agencies are actively working to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
He urged the residents of Asawase and nearby communities to remain calm and collaborate with investigators by sharing any relevant information. He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in Ashanti, and the broader traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.
“Justice will be served. We are committed to protecting every citizen and ensuring the full force of the law is brought to bear on the perpetrators,” the Minister stated.
