“They Govern with PR, Not Policy” – Sammi Awuku Rips into NDC

Awuku accuses the NDC of relying on public image and media spin while neglecting real economic solutions.

  • Sammi Awuku says the NDC is more focused on image than substance
  • Cites rising tariffs and GHC1 Fuel Levy as evidence of economic insensitivity
  • Accuses gov’t of hypocrisy over fuel allowance cuts for appointees

Member of Parliament for Akwapem North, Sammi Awuku, has taken a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), branding it a government built on public relations stunts, media optics, and staged appearances rather than genuine governance and policy delivery.

Speaking in an interview, Awuku accused the NDC of failing to address the real economic struggles of Ghanaians, despite constant reassurances. He cited recent tariff hikes—including an 11% electricity increase in 2024, followed by a 17% jump in July 2025, alongside a 6% rise in water tariffs—as proof that the government is out of touch with ordinary citizens.

Awuku also condemned the recently announced cancellation of fuel allowances for appointees, calling it deceptive. According to him, government operatives are still accessing fuel from official depots like Jubilee House and Castle Osu, despite the supposed cuts.

“This is a government of PR, optics, and settings. What they show publicly is not what they do privately,” he stated.

He ended with a pointed metaphor:

“The Ghanaian is being asked to tighten her belt, while the government wears elastic around the waist.”
