“The NPP Is Bigger Than Any Individual” – Akufo-Addo Urges Unity Ahead of Primaries
Former President calls on flagbearer aspirants to put party cohesion above personal ambition for 2028 victory

- Akufo-Addo stresses that the NPP is bigger than any individual or faction.
- Unity is a strategic necessity, not optional, for winning elections
- Aspirants are urged to honor the peace pact and prioritize collective party success ahead of 2028
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reminded New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirants and their supporters that the party’s unity must take precedence over individual ambitions as the party prepares for its leadership contest.
Speaking at the peace pact signing ceremony in Accra on Thursday, January 22, Akufo-Addo stressed that the NPP is larger than any one person or faction.
“Let me be clear. The NPP is bigger than any individual. No ambition or faction is greater than the elephant,” he said, referring to the party’s emblem.
The former president highlighted that internal contests should strengthen the party’s mission, not weaken it. Unity, he said, is not optional or a mere slogan—it is a strategic necessity for electoral success.
“Unity is not an option. Unity is not a slogan. Unity is a strategic necessity for victory,” Akufo-Addo stated.
He urged the aspirants to honor the peace pact they signed, emphasizing that it should guide their actions throughout the campaign.
“So I charge all of you: this peace pact must not only be signed, it must be lived,” he said.
The ceremony brought together aspirants and party leaders who reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful competition and collective progress, setting the stage for a united NPP heading into the 2028 general elections.
