Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, has disclosed that the party he truly supports is absent from the ballot for Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

In a candid interview at his Accra residence, the professor expressed disappointment that his “real party” will not be contesting.

He revealed that deep divisions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have led him to distance himself from the party, despite his long-standing emotional connection to it, which dates back to his grandfather’s involvement in its early days.

“The NPP is fragmented, disunited, and lacks cohesion,” he remarked. “It no longer feels like the party I have always loved and supported.”

Frimpong-Boateng also shared his frustration about the challenges he faces, including a lawsuit from two NPP members while preparing a report on environmental terrorism. Despite his discontent with the current state of the party, he emphasized his commitment to public service, as he and his classmates approach a 50-year milestone in the field.

Reflecting on the NPP’s past, he spoke fondly of the party’s commitment to the rule of law, good governance, and respect for leadership, contrasting it with the issues he perceives today. The professor also voiced his concerns over ongoing corruption within the party, urging a need for reform.

“This is not the NPP that former President Kufuor left us,” he concluded.
