Lawyer William Kusi, counsel for Akosua Serwaa, has fiercely challenged the ruling in the high-profile widowhood dispute involving the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, insisting that the court erred in law and that an appeal has already been filed.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Se Sen Show on Lawson TV Ghana, hosted by Kwame Tanko, on Monday, December 1, 2025, Lawyer Kusi declared:

“The Judge Was Wrong In Her Ruling; We Filed An Appeal Immediately After The Judgment.”

How Lawyer Kusi Became Akosua Serwaa’s Lawyer

Narrating how he became involved in the case, Lawyer Kusi revealed that he received a direct call from Akosua Serwaa shortly after the dispute broke out. According to him, she sought legal advice, and after offering guidance, he officially took up the case as her lawyer.

“I have handled this case professionally and diligently. I am not a failure,” he stressed.

“Odo Buroni Can Never Be a Wife” — Lawyer Kusi

The outspoken lawyer maintained that Odo Buroni cannot be considered a lawful wife of the late musician, even after the court’s decision.

“The law did not speak clearly, and I am at liberty to say this after the ruling,” he stated.

He further emphasized that although his team respects the court’s judgment, they fundamentally disagree with it and have appropriately sought authorization to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.

Importantly, Lawyer Kusi clarified that:

“The appeal will not travel beyond the Court of Appeal.”

Controversy Over Marriage Certificate

Lawyer Kusi also dismissed claims that the marriage certificate he tendered before the court was fake. He described as “a joke” the judge’s demand that the original ordinance marriage certificate should have been produced.

“The marriage certificate we presented was not fake. The judge was wrong,” he insisted.

Funeral Date Changed

On the final funeral arrangements for Daddy Lumba, Lawyer Kusi announced a new date:

“The funeral will not be held on December 13, 2025, but on March 14, 2026.”

This announcement comes amid heightened public tension over who holds the legal authority over the late musician’s final rites.

Akosua Serwaa’s Emotional Breakdown After Ruling

In a deeply emotional revelation, Lawyer Kusi disclosed that Akosua Serwaa broke down uncontrollably after the ruling last Friday.

“She cried uncontrollably after the ruling, and we were afraid she might harm herself. We had to send people to her house immediately,” he revealed.

Who Is Entitled to Lumba’s Property?

According to Lawyer Kusi, Odo Buroni is not entitled to Daddy Lumba’s properties. Instead, he said the late musician’s six children alone have legitimate claims.

He added that if the ruling is overturned on appeal, Odo Buroni would be required to return any “agyapadeɛ” (property) she may have received—except what would legally belong to the children.

Akosua Serwaa “Suffered With Lumba”

Lawyer Kusi also noted that Akosua Serwaa endured significant hardship during her relationship with Daddy Lumba and remained committed through difficult times. He further claimed that she was not aware that Daddy Lumba had children with Odo Buroni and believed that their relationship did not last long.

Why He Spoke After Every Court Session

Responding to public backlash over his frequent media appearances, Lawyer Kusi explained:

“People blamed me for granting interviews after every court session, but there was misreporting after the first day. That is why I continued granting interviews after each sitting.”

Legal Battle Far From Over

Despite the ruling, Lawyer Kusi made it clear that the legal battle is far from over. The appeal, now officially filed, is expected to test the credibility of the judgment and the claims surrounding the marriage, property rights, and widowhood status.

As the nation awaits the next phase of the legal showdown, the Daddy Lumba widowhood dispute continues to grip public attention—mixing law, legacy, emotion, and inheritance in one of Ghana’s most closely watched courtroom dramas in recent years.
