Three suspected armed robbers were shot dead in a fierce gun battle with police at Kpone on Sunday night during a high-risk operation by the Tema Regional Police Command.
The incident unfolded after a distress call reported that around 10 armed men were attempting to break into a warehouse in the Tema Industrial Area. Responding swiftly, a police patrol team confronted the suspects, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire.
Three of the suspects were fatally shot and pronounced dead at the scene, while the rest managed to escape, some believed to be wounded.
A statement from the Ghana Police Service revealed that officers recovered a Bruni mod foreign pistol, a locally manufactured double-barrelled pistol loaded with two rounds, and 11 live BB cartridges from the crime scene.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for autopsy and identification.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Police Service praised the Kpone District Command for their timely and coordinated intervention, which prevented what could have been a major robbery incident.
