A tragic incident at American Farm, Ngleshie Amanfro, in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has left residents in fear after a taxi driver, identified only as Kwame, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers early Friday morning.

The attack reportedly occurred around 5 a.m. near the Roman School area when four men on two motorbikes confronted Kwame as he walked to the lorry station on his way to work. Witnesses say the assailants demanded his bag, money, and phone, but Kwame resisted and attempted to fight them off. In the struggle, he was shot in the rib and died on the spot.

Residents revealed that Kwame, who had recently stopped driving his taxi, was working with a contractor on the Kasoa–Winneba Road project. One eyewitness noted that the deceased might have underestimated the attackers because of their youthful appearance.

Locals expressed shock over the daylight killing, saying gunfire and the attackers’ aggression forced everyone to stay indoors. Some community members, however, suspect that the attack may have had motives beyond robbery.

Police are yet to make any arrests as investigations continue.
