Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, has confirmed that he is currently under investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over matters related to his time as Minister of Education.
Speaking in a widely circulated interview with 1957, Dr. Prempeh—popularly known as Napo—disclosed that he has been cooperating with the NIB, including attending a recent session on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
“Many people are unaware that I’ve been invited by the NIB to support investigations into certain issues during my term at the Ministry of Education. I couldn’t have refused to go,” he remarked.
Dr. Prempeh served as Education Minister from January 2017 to January 2021 under President Nana Akufo-Addo. He noted that while some details from that period may have faded, he is fully committed to assisting investigators.
“There are things I’ve simply forgotten—no one can remember every detail. That’s why there are technocrats and professionals who handle day-to-day operations and maintain the necessary records,” he added.
