A tragic incident has occurred in Pomposo, a suburb of the Obuasi East District in the Ashanti Region, where the lifeless body of a prison officer was discovered in River Pompo.

The deceased, identified as Constable Clement Tei Gyabah, was found alongside his motorbike in the river. The exact cause of the incident remains uncertain.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the officer, who was commuting to work around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, from Asokore, may have lost control of his motorcycle due to the light rain. He allegedly veered off the road and collided with a concrete safety barrier near the river.

However, other witnesses speculate that Constable Gyabah may have been struck by an oncoming vehicle, citing visible lacerations on his body as possible evidence of a hit-and-run.

The discovery shocked residents and passersby, who gathered at the scene early Wednesday morning.

Police have since retrieved the body and transported it to the morgue as investigations continue.

The Ghana Prisons Service has confirmed the incident and is expected to release an official statement soon.
