Police Recover Five Firearms, Kill Suspected Robber in Bono Region Shootout

The Bono Regional Police Command has recovered five firearms and shot dead a suspected robber during an intelligence-led operation in the region.

According to a press release from Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Command, police received intelligence on February 11, 2026, that a gang was planning to attack traders along the Dormaa-Gonokrom highway. Surveillance teams were promptly deployed to prevent the attack.

In the early hours of February 12, officers came under gunfire from nearby bushes while approaching a parked motorbike. Police returned fire, and by daybreak, a male suspect was found dead with an AK-47 rifle beside him.

A subsequent search led to the seizure of additional weapons and ammunition, including two Baikal single-barrel guns, a pump-action gun, and a Beretta pistol loaded with three 9mm rounds and 34 spare rounds. Other items recovered included an AK-47 with 11 rounds and 10 extra rounds, 39 BB cartridges, a dagger, a mobile phone, a Honda motorbike, a black mask, and a set of talismans.

The suspect’s body has been taken to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

The Bono Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing to track down other gang members and urged the public to provide credible information to enhance safety and security in the region.
