A man suspected of stealing a motorbike has died following a brutal attack by a mob in Awutu Bawjiase, located in the Awutu Senya West District of Ghana’s Central Region.
Reports indicate that the suspect, along with an accomplice, hired a commercial motorcycle (Okada) rider from Esikaso in the Eastern Region, claiming they wanted to travel to Awutu Bawjiase. However, upon reaching the town’s outskirts, the suspects allegedly assaulted the rider with a stick and fled with his motorbike.
The victim sought help from another Okada rider and together they pursued the suspects.
Isaac Amoaquandoh, Assembly Member for the Bawjiase-Mankesim Electoral Area, told Adom News that the suspects were riding the stolen motorbike along the Bawjiase-Okwampa road when they were caught by a group of Okada riders. While one suspect managed to escape, the other was captured and violently attacked by the mob, who mutilated him by severing his testicles.
Police officers from the Awutu Bawjiase District Command intervened, rescuing the injured suspect and rushing him to the Awutu Bawjiase Polyclinic. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to the severity of his injuries.
The Bawjiase District Police Command has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating both the lynching and the alleged motorbike theft.
