More than 20 cattle belonging to a Fulani herdsman, identified as Sarkin Amaru, have reportedly been killed after a lightning strike during a heavy rainstorm at Tatale in the Northern Region.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday, May 25, 2026, during an evening downpour accompanied by intense thunder and lightning.
Mr. Amaru recounted that he was inside his hut when the weather suddenly became severe. Moments after a powerful thunderclap was heard, he noticed one of his cattle collapse.
He said he immediately rushed outside, only to discover that several other animals were also falling and dying.
Within a few minutes, more than 20 cattle had reportedly died instantly, leaving the herdsman devastated and in deep shock.
Mr. Amaru described the incident as a heartbreaking loss, explaining that the cattle were his only source of livelihood and the main means of supporting his family.
He is now appealing to the government, the district assembly, benevolent individuals, and organisations for urgent assistance to help him recover from the devastating loss.
