A 45-year-old man, Kudjo Ntow, has been arrested by the Agona Nkwanta District Police Command in connection with the alleged rape and murder of his wife’s niece, 17-year-old Olivia Kwofie, at Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipal District of the Western Region.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 1, 2026. A passerby, Samuel Kingsford Kwofie, was on his way to his rubber plantation when he heard cries for help near School B, close to the Fire Service Station at Agona Nkwanta.

He approached the scene and found the victim sitting naked on the ground with both hands and legs tied with a rope. He untied her and, while escorting her to the police station, the suspect allegedly attacked them from behind, struck the victim with a cement block, and fled.

Police arrived to find Olivia Kwofie lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries to her face. She was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic but was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, described by police as an ex-convict, had allegedly restrained the victim before the incident.

A joint operation by the Regional Police Intelligence Unit and Agona Nkwanta Police arrested Kudjo Ntow the following day at his hideout in Nsuaem.

He has since appeared before the Appollo Circuit Court in Takoradi on June 3 and has been remanded into prison custody. The case has been adjourned to June 17, 2026.
