Government Sets November 28 for Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ State Funeral

A state funeral will be held in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The solemn national event will take place under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama, according to a statement issued on Thursday, November 6, by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

“The Government of Ghana, under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama, will hold a state funeral for the late former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Independence Square,” the statement announced.

The government said the state funeral recognises Mrs. Rawlings’ remarkable contributions to the empowerment of women and children and her lasting impact on national development.

Mrs. Rawlings, Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. She served as First Lady from June 1979 to January 2001, spanning both military and civilian administrations.

A trailblazer in Ghanaian politics, she also made history as the first woman to contest the presidency in Ghana’s 2016 general elections.
