Energy Ministry Refutes Reports of Aviation Fuel Shortage
Energy Ministry assures public and aviation stakeholders of adequate jet fuel supply, citing recent shipment and routine maintenance as cause of false shortage reports.

- Energy Ministry denies reports of aviation fuel shortage, calling them false and misleading
- Recent jet fuel shipment of nearly 12,000 metric tons is being distributed to key depots
- Temporary concerns were due to scheduled maintenance on the ATK jetty pipeline
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has strongly debunked reports alleging a shortage of aviation fuel in Ghana, insisting that the country has enough Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK) to meet all operational needs in the aviation sector.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Ministry described the circulating claims as false and misleading, attributing the confusion to recent scheduled maintenance on the ATK jetty pipeline — a key fuel-handling infrastructure at Ghana’s ports.
“This maintenance was long overdue, and any further delay would have compromised the integrity of the jetty and Ghana’s fuel security,” the Ministry clarified.
To dispel fears, the Ministry revealed that Ghana recently received 11,984 metric tons of ATK fuel. Of this, 4,583 metric tons have already been offloaded to Petroleum and Warehousing Services Limited (PWSL).
The remaining supply is currently being discharged to Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Ridge Depots, with full offloading expected to complete by midday, July 25.
The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah (MP), has also met with stakeholders, including the Ghana Airports Company Limited, to reinforce coordination and transparency across the sector.
“We urge the public to disregard these unfounded reports. There is absolutely no shortage of aviation fuel,” stated Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Head of Communication.
The Ministry concluded by reaffirming its dedication to energy security and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of Ghana’s aviation and transport systems.
