A 29-year-old woman, Sophia Amankwa, has been arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command at Dogo Junction near Ada in the Greater Accra Region for possession of a large quantity of suspected narcotics.

According to a police statement, the arrest took place on June 25, 2025, after officers intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12. The driver of the vehicle reportedly abandoned the truck and fled the scene upon sighting the police.

A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered 3,900 compressed, cello-taped slabs of a substance believed to be Indian hemp, tightly packed into 52 sacks.

Preliminary investigations have identified Sophia Amankwa as the owner of the consignment. She is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched a manhunt for the driver and any other individuals linked to the operation.
