A security guard has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to rob a Nigerian hairstylist of her iPhone 14, worth GHS15,000.

The incident happened in the early hours of April 5, 2025, at Nmai Dzorn in the Greater Accra Region.

The convict, identified as Botwe, was employed by a private security firm stationed at Adjiriganor. According to prosecutors, he abandoned his post around 4:00 a.m., armed with a kitchen knife hidden in his trousers, and attacked the complainant, Ms. Tosin Adesokan, near her residence at Ashalley Botwe School Junction.

Ms. Adesokan, a hairstylist, was on her way home when Botwe attempted the robbery. He was quickly apprehended and later arraigned before the Adenta Circuit Court.

After admitting guilt, Botwe was remanded while sentencing was postponed.

During the final hearing, the judge acknowledged that although Botwe was a young first-time offender, his actions were serious and warranted a custodial sentence.

His guilty plea, however, spared the court a prolonged trial.
