Parliament has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament said it had been officially informed of the incident and is engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain further details.

The statement noted that the Rt. Hon. Speaker and parliamentary leadership are in close contact with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the detention of the Independent MP.

“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon. Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr. Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands,” the statement said.

It further added that the Speaker and leadership are working with the diplomatic mission for detailed information on the matter, assuring that the public will be updated as developments unfold.

Parliament emphasized that further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.
