Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested four suspected armed robbers and fatally shot another in two separate anti-robbery operations carried out this month.

The first incident occurred on July 9, when police received a distress call about a robbery in progress along the Ankaako–Asuoso–Fenase road in the Amansie South District.

A swift response from a patrol team led to the arrest of four suspects who were attempting to escape on motorbikes.

The suspects—identified as Rahman Alhassan (27), Nurudeen Fatawu (25), Naafewu Masahudu (22), and Yaw Saaka (42)—were found in possession of a pump-action shotgun, 20 rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and talismans.

In a separate intelligence-led operation in Abedwum, Obuasi Municipality, police engaged a group of armed robbers in a gun battle. The confrontation resulted in the death of one suspect, while the others fled into nearby bushes.

According to police, the fleeing suspects likely sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange. A search of the deceased suspect’s backpack revealed 14 rounds of ammunition and other items yet to be disclosed.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command says efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and has assured residents of continued security presence in robbery-prone areas.
