Two Robbery Gangs Busted in Ashanti Region, One Suspect Killed
Police operations in Krofrom and Mamponteng lead to the death of one suspect and the arrest of a gang leader as investigations continue

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has dismantled two robbery gangs in separate intelligence-led operations in Krofrom and Mamponteng, near Kumasi.
The first operation, conducted on March 26, 2026, under the supervision of the Regional Operations Commander, led to the death of 27-year-old Muniru Ali. According to DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Commander, Ali opened fire on officers while attempting to flee, resulting in a gunfight. He was shot, taken to Bekwai Government Hospital, but later died from his injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ali admitted to involvement in multiple robberies across the region.
In a second operation on March 28, 2026, police apprehended 28-year-old Osmanu Razak, identified as a gang leader, in Mamponteng. Razak, reportedly from Garu, confessed to participating in several robberies in the Ashanti Region.
Police investigations are ongoing as efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the region continue.
