GWCL Shuts Down Barekese Water Treatment Plant in Ashanti Region
Power line maintenance by ECG prompts 8-hour shutdown; service to resume once electricity is restored.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
According to a public statement issued by GWCL, the planned interruption is to allow the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to carry out essential maintenance works on nearby power lines.
GWCL has assured affected residents that water supply operations will resume immediately after power is restored, and urged the public to store enough water in advance to minimize inconvenience.
