Luis Diaz has officially left Liverpool after three-and-a-half years to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a £65.5 million deal, signing a four-year contract with the German club.
The 28-year-old Colombian winger was notably absent from Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan amid ongoing transfer talks. After initially rejecting Bayern’s £58.6 million offer, Liverpool accepted a higher bid over the weekend, allowing Diaz to proceed with his medical.
During his time at Anfield, Diaz became a Premier League champion and lifted four major trophies with Liverpool. Reflecting on his departure, Diaz expressed pride in his achievements and gratitude to the club, teammates, coaches, and fans. He paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Diogo Jota, whose recent passing cast a shadow over his farewell.
Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37 million and scored 41 goals in 148 appearances. He won both the FA Cup and EFL Cup in his first season and featured in the 2022 Champions League final against Real Madrid. Last season was his best yet, netting 17 goals as Liverpool clinched the Premier League title.
Liverpool’s sale of Diaz contributes to approximately £115 million raised this summer, offsetting significant spending on new signings such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez. Meanwhile, Liverpool continues to pursue Newcastle’s striker Alexander Isak, who is currently exploring a move away from the club.
